Hops farming making a come back

Hops, once thought to be an extinct crop in New York, is making a come back with the help of Cornell University and the Northeast Hop Alliance. New York has a history of growing hops, but due to disease problems and prohibition, farmers stopped growing it.

Pederson Farms has recently started up a test plot and has been quit successful. They have sold most of their yields to a local brewery called Ithaca Brewery Company. The rediscovery of this market has many farmers questioning the plausibility and economic viability of returning to hops farming. Until then, residence in the area will just have to continue to enjoy the Double IPA being produced by Ithaca.
